Man behind bars after fatal Tea shooting

TEA, SD (Dakota News Now) – One man is behind bars and another is dead after a shooting in Tea Monday.

According to the Tea Police Department, reports of a shooting in the 2200 block of North Carla Avenue came in at 11:40 a.m. on June 3.

Upon arrival, Tea police found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. The shooting victim received medical treatment but ultimately succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

While investigating the events leading up to the shooting, law enforcement identified Timothy Duwayne Overton as a suspect in a serious domestic assault that occurred prior to the shooting.

Overton was taken into custody by the Tea Police Department and transported to the Minnehaha County Jail where he is currently being held without bond. The Lincoln County State's Attorney's Office announced that Mr. Overton will make his first court appearance this week on allegations involving multiple counts of aggravated assault – domestic and simple assault – marital relations in recent weeks.

Police say to preserve the integrity of the investigation, no additional details will be released until multiple witness interviews and evidence processing are completed. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Tea Police Department.
