Man attempts to steal fuel from Needham fire station

NEEDHAM, Ind. – A man tried to use a fire department's entire supply last week.

According to the Needham Community Fire Department, a van showed up at Station 81 (6822 E 350 N) at 5:13 a.m. on Thursday, May 30. The driver got out and attempted to steal fuel from the fire station.

“This individual decided to try to help himself with our supply of mission critical fuel that we use for our fire trucks, so that we can respond to your emergency when you need us,” wrote the department on Facebook.

The ministry said the man was unable to obtain fuel; a secondary locking mechanism prevented this. Firefighters were not on scene but were instead at Station 82, the department noted.

“As your local fire department, we do our best to serve you in any way we can, but we can't do it without fuel to put in our fire trucks,” the post said.

The department serves the community of Needham and Clark Township.

Anyone recognizing the truck or man should contact the Johnson County Sheriff's Office Crime Tip Line at (317) 346-4654.
