Man assaults woman, arrested near East Central Spokane

SPD said the woman called 911 to ask for help for the man, who SPD said managed to get up and walk toward the woman's car.

SPOKANE, Wash. — A man was arrested after allegedly assaulting a woman who police say tried to help him near east-central Spokane last Saturday.

According to the Spokane Police Department (SPD), officers responded to reports of a possible assault on Napa Street and Trent Avenue around 7 a.m. on Saturday, June 8. SPD said officers learned of a woman heading north on Napa Street at Trent Avenue. when she stopped at a red light and saw a man trip on the road and fall into traffic.

SPD said the woman called 911 to ask for help for the man, who SPD said managed to get up and walk toward the woman's car.

The man on the road told the woman he needed water, and the woman left her car as another car drove up with another man driving, who gave her a bottle of water .

SPD said the woman gave the man water and he ran off the road and directly into a concrete wall, falling to the ground. SPD said the woman approached the man and offered to help when he pulled her to the ground and began strangling her.

SPD said the man who was driving ran and pulled the other man away from the woman. SPD said the man continued to try to get her out of the car while the driver tried to push her away.

SPD said the woman left and officers saw injuries to the woman's neck.

SPD developed probable cause to arrest Robert M. Fisher, 28, for second-degree assault.

SPD said Fisher was taken to a local hospital and then booked into the Spokane County Jail.
