A Boulder man has been arrested in connection with two separate shootings in the city last week.

John Paul Gaudreau, 35, faces two counts of attempted first-degree murder, inciting domestic violence, reckless endangerment and violating a protection order. Other charges are pending, police said.

A man went to the hospital after a shooting near 28th Street and Mapleton Avenue shortly after 2 a.m. Wednesday, according to a news release from Boulder police. The man said he was shot by an unknown assailant. However, police said they were able to identify a suspect.

Last week, police received a report that someone heard gunshots fired around 9 p.m. Friday in the 1600 block of 28th Street. Police said they investigated the report but at the time found no victims and had limited leads, according to a social media post.

After investigating, police said they linked Wednesday's shooting to Friday's and found Gaudreau at his home in the 1700 block of Baseline Road.

Police also contacted a victim of Friday's shooting who was shot in the shoulder but did not seek medical attention until Wednesday.

Several teams were called Wednesday to contact Gaudreau and take him into custody. At 11:15 a.m., he surrendered to police and was arrested without incident. At least one firearm was found, police said.

“Crimes like these don’t happen often in our community. When they do, they instill fear and are of extreme concern to our agency, and we will take the perpetrators into custody as soon as possible,” Boulder Interim Police Chief Stephen Redfearn said in the statement.

“Since Friday, our investigators have been working diligently to identify the individuals involved in this case. The successful arrest in these cases is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our investigative and patrol teams, and I am grateful that our tactical teams were able to safely apprehend this suspect without harming anyone.”

Both cases are still under investigation.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Scott Byars at [email protected] or 303-441-1970 and refer to case number 24-6285.
