Man arrested on suspicion of murder

A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a woman who was fatally stabbed on a Bournemouth beach.

Two women from Poole were stabbed on Durley Chine beach at around 11:45am BST on May 24.

Amie Gray, a 34-year-old personal trainer, died at the scene, while a seriously injured 38-year-old woman remains in hospital.

Police said the man, from Croydon, London, was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

Superintendent Richard Dixey, of the Major Crime Investigation Team, said: “The investigation has progressed rapidly in recent days, which has now led to an arrest in London.

“Officers from Dorset Police’s intelligence and firearms teams worked with colleagues from the Metropolitan Police to make the arrest.”

A cordon set up along the promenade has now been lifted but the search continues.

On Tuesday morning, search teams could be seen descending the cliff with ropes, tearing out the undergrowth.

On Sunday, police released CCTV footage of a man they want to speak to, in a bid to encourage witnesses to come forward.

Ms Gray was head coach of Dorset Futsal Club, a women's indoor football team.

In a statement posted on Facebook, the club said it was “truly devastating news”.
