Man arrested on animal cruelty charges after 26 dogs rescued from 'inhumane' conditions, BCSO says

BEXAR COUNTY, TEXAS – The Bexar County Sheriff's Office said it has arrested a man on animal cruelty charges.

Deputies responded to a home in the 7800 block of Fossil Banks Thursday after Bexar County Animal Control reported a suspected case of animal cruelty.

Neighbors told the county the residence had abused dogs and rats around the house, the sheriff's office said.

When police arrived, the owner, Michael Moore, opened the door. Upon entry, authorities said they detected the odor of urine and feces inside the home.

Bexar County deputies said several dogs were covered in feces that surrounded the entire living room floor.

With the help of Bexar County Animal Control, City of San Antonio Animal Control and Bexar County Fire Hazmat, deputies rescued 26 dogs.

A dog was found dead in the kitchen, the sheriff's office said.

After being arrested, Moore was taken to the Bexar County Jail, where he was booked shortly after 3 a.m. Friday.

According to jail records, Moore faces at least one charge of cruelty to an animal other than livestock.

The sheriff's office said Moore could face additional charges, pending health exams of the dogs.

Moore was released on bail around 4:20 p.m. Friday, according to jail records.
