Brockton Police responded Monday evening to a report of a double stabbing at 23 Melrose Ave. Brockton police then notified state police detectives assigned to the Plymouth County Prosecutor's Office about the stabbing around 7:40 p.m.

“The two male victims were transported to area hospitals,” the prosecutor’s office said in a written statement. “A man was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.”

The slain victim was identified as William Hewlett, 59, the prosecutor's office said. The second victim, a 61-year-old man, was treated and released from South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, the office said.

“As a result of the active and ongoing investigation, the Massachusetts State Police requested and obtained an arrest warrant for Kevin Digregorio, 33, of Randolph,” the release states.

Vermont State Police and U.S. Marshals located Digregorio Wednesday morning, asleep in a vehicle along a road in Lunenberg, Vermont, the prosecutor's office said. He was arrested and will be arraigned on murder and other charges in Brockton District Court pending the outcome of the restitution process in Vermont.
