Man arrested in fatal kidnapping case admits actions, says he deserves death penalty

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – A man arrested for kidnapping two Louisiana children and killing one says he admitted to his crimes and deserves to die, but blamed his actions on an antidepressant as he was taken out from Jackson Police Headquarters Friday.

“I did it,” Daniel Callihan said. “I have no reason for what I did. All I know is that I was sober and only on and off Lexapro, and I was also diagnosed with multiple personality disorder.

Callihan is charged with capital murder and sexual assault, a day after he was arrested for kidnapping two Louisiana girls, driving them across state lines and into Jackson. He also faces several charges in Tangipahoa, Louisiana. These included first-degree murder in connection with the mother's killing and two counts of aggravated kidnapping and armed robbery.

He allegedly killed one of the two, a 4-year-old girl named Erin. Her six-year-old sister was found alive in the woods in the 3900 block of Boozier Street and taken for medical treatment.

He also allegedly killed the girls' mother, Callie Brunett, at their home on North Cooper Road in Loranger, Louisiana.

“I told them everything I did and agreed not to fight,” he said while strapped into the back of a county sheriff's deputy's vehicle by Rankin. “For what I’ve done, lethal injection is the easiest thing for me.”

When a reporter asked him if he was just acting crazy, he replied, “Look for me in Region 8. Borderline Multiple Personality Disorder.” You better look it up before you say I'm pretending to be crazy.
