Man arrested in Clinton following three-home collision that caused gas leak

A 22-year-old man was arrested Sunday morning after crashing into three homes in Clinton, causing a gas leak in the neighborhood and “heavy damage” to the homes, officials said.

Police and firefighters responded around 7 a.m. to the area of ​​980 to 990 Main St. where the vehicle the man was driving caused power outages to homes and also struck a telephone pole and a vehicle parked, according to a Facebook post by the Clinton Police Department.

After the collision and the consequences “major gas leak,” residents in the area were evacuated from their homes and the road was closed, police said in the message.

The man, whose name has not been released, was allegedly “aggressive and uncooperative” and was arrested at the scene, according to police. He is charged with speeding, operating without a license, operating under the influence, multiple counts of destruction of property, resisting arrest and assault and battery on a police officer, said the police.

The crash remains under investigation, police say, and the man could face additional charges. No further information was provided on where the man is from or when he will be brought to justice.
