Man arrested in attack on Pinole police employee

PINOLE – A 65-year-old San Pablo man was arrested on suspicion of attacking a Pinole Police Department employee Tuesday afternoon, according to authorities.

The incident happened around 4:15 p.m. at the station, located at 880 Tennent Ave., police said in a news release.

The employee had finished helping another person moments earlier when the man walked toward the counter. Police said the employee greeted the man, who responded by ringing the counter several times and grabbing her by the right arm.

The employee fought back but the man pulled her toward him, preventing her from fleeing, police said.

When she managed to free herself, the man climbed over the counter and chased her, police said. She took refuge in an administrative room with the help of another employee.

Officers heard the noise and went to investigate. They confronted the man in the main hallway and arrested him. He was booked into the Martinez Detention Center on charges of burglary, kidnapping, false imprisonment, battery, assault and a misdemeanor arrest warrant.

The incident remains under investigation.
