Man arrested for threatening people by firing shots into the ground

PORTLAND, Oregon (KOIN) — A man has been arrested after being accused of threatening people by using a gun to fire shots into the ground in North Portland in May, authorities said.

According to the Portland Police Bureau, officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 8600 block of North Lombard Street at 11:15 p.m. on May 30. When officers arrived, they found three spent bullet casings. Three witnesses told officers they were “being threatened by a suspect who fired three rounds into the ground.”


On Wednesday, Lindell D. Betts was arrested after being identified by the Enhanced Community Safety Team as the primary suspect. The Special Emergency Response Team and Crisis Negotiation Team had served an arrest warrant at his home in the 9500 block of North Lombard Street, where officers also seized three firearms.

Betts was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center and faces charges that include unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon.
