The Mt. Pleasant Police Department investigated the Midwest Precast Concrete Plant after receiving reports of theft and arrested Wiliam Motta, 31 of Mt. Pleasant.

According to court documents, Matthew Moehle, manager of precast concrete production in the Midwest, provided the police department with security camera footage showing Motta entering the building at 11:42 a.m. and using a crowbar to break into a tool cabinet.

“The defendant is then seen on security camera footage taking what is believed to be a Milwaukee Impact Driver worth approximately $300,” states a criminal complaint filed by Officer Robert Szewcyk.

In addition to the theft evidence, Moehle provided the Mt. Pleasant Police Office with still images of ID cards that include an Illinois ID card and a Social Security card in the name of Jose De Jesus Garcia .

“A check of these cards verified that they were unregistered and fraudulent,” Szewcyk reported.

Szewcyk reported that on May 29, city officers responded to these reports of theft and, while meeting with Motta in Moehle's office, Moehle entered the office holding Motta's backpack and, without being prompted by officers, opened the bag to reveal three batteries, two chargers, a box of screws and a rebar cutting tool. The contents of the page were estimated to cost around $4,000.

Motta's preliminary hearing is set for Friday, June 7 at 9 a.m. Motta is currently being held at the Henry County Jail on a cash-only bond in the amount of $10,000.
