Man arrested for sex crimes after transporting minor to AR

FORT SMITH, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) —A Fort Smith man has been arrested for allegedly having an online relationship with a 15-year-old woman from California.

On Friday, May 31, the Fort Smith Police Department (FSPD) was contacted by California State law enforcement officials regarding an investigation involving Fort Smith resident Sean Robert Schiemann, 49. Smith, according to a press release.

Schiemann allegedly purchased a plane ticket for a 15-year-old female from California to Arkansas, where he then picked her up at Northwest Arkansas National Airport (XNA).

An investigation by the Fort Smith Police Department and U.S. Marshals to locate the two individuals followed, leading to the discovery of Schiemann and the juvenile at his Fort Smith residence.

Schiemann was then transported to the Sebastian County Adult Detention Center and now faces charges of sexual assault, internet harassment of a child and two counts of possession of child pornography.

Schiemann currently has a $100,345 bond and will go to court on his first four charges on June 5. He will also go to court on a contempt/willful disobedience charge on June 4.

The investigation is still ongoing and the FSPD will work with California authorities to explore additional potential charges against Schiemann, according to the press release.
