Man arrested for rape and sodomy of a minor

LEVEL PLAINS-A man accused of first-degree rape and first-degree sodomy of a minor in Level Plains is in custody after lingering to authorities for two days, according to Dale County Sheriff Mason Bynum.

Colt Bryan Lecuyer, 33, is in the Dale County Jail after being arrested Sunday in Macon County.

Bynum said that on Friday, Ozark-Dale County E911 received a call from a Level Plains resident who described witnessing sexual contact involving Lecuyer and a young child – under the age of 10 – at the rear of Lecuyer's vehicle.

Before Level Plains police arrived, Lecuyer, a registered sex offender and federal inmate on probation, fled the scene in his vehicle. DCSO investigators began gathering information at the scene and a “be on the lookout” warning was issued for Lecuyer, Bynum said. Shortly after 10 p.m. Friday, an Auburn police officer spotted the suspect's vehicle abandoned in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart on South College Street in Auburn.

DCSO investigators responded to Auburn's call regarding the vehicle and, with the assistance of Auburn detectives and Lee County deputies, Lecuyer's vehicle was processed and returned to Dale County. A search was conducted for the suspect, but he was not located at that time, Bynum said.

On Sunday, DCSO investigators learned the suspect was on foot near the Lee-Macon county line in the Tuskegee National Forest. The Macon County Sheriff's Office along with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Aviation Unit, State Bureau of Investigation agents and the Department of Corrections K9 Tracking Team of Alabama Correctional Institutions in Kilby and Ventress all responded to the area, Bynum said. “Department of Corrections K9 tracking teams tracked the suspect for more than four miles before taking him into custody in a wooded area near County Road 57 in Macon County.”

Bynum said Dale County deputies traveled to Macon County to take custody of Lecuyer and return him to the Dale County Jail.

“I would like to thank Sheriff Andre Brunson and members of the Macon County Sheriff’s Office, the DOC K9 teams and ALEA for their tireless efforts to capture Lecuyer,” Bynum said. “I also thank the Auburn Police Department and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance during this investigation.

“Individuals like Lécuyer, who wish to attack young children, have no place in our society. He’s a convicted sex offender, so this wasn’t the first time he’s victimized a young child, but I pray it’s the last,” Bynum said. “I applaud the efforts of law enforcement who made it their mission this weekend to put him back behind bars, where he belongs.”
