Man arrested for driving under the influence and driving the wrong way on I-84

A Hartford man was arrested after allegedly driving the wrong way on Interstate 84 Saturday morning, according to state police.

Gilberto Rivera, 40, was charged with driving under the influence, driving under suspension, driving the wrong way on a divided highway and second-degree reckless endangerment.

Officers received several 911 calls reporting a vehicle with its hazard lights traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-84 in the area of ​​Exit 68 in Tolland around 4:26 a.m. Saturday, police said of state.

While responding troopers were traveling eastbound on I-84 in the area of ​​exits 67 and 68, they observed a vehicle traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-84. A short time later, troopers located a silver Honda Crosstour parked on the entrance ramp to the westbound rest area of ​​westbound I-84 in nearby Willington.

During his interactions with State Police, Rivera allegedly showed signs of impairment. He was then asked to participate in sobriety tests, which he did not pass, police said in a statement.

Rivera was taken into custody and transported to Troop C in Tolland, where he was charged and charged. Rivera was released on $25,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned in Rockville Superior Court on June 10.
