Man arrested for driving 100 miles per hour in Monona | News

MONONA, Wis. (WKOW) — The Monona Police Department arrested a driver who was going 100 miles per hour on Highway 12, according to a Sunday news release.

The press release says this happened in a 55 mph zone. Authorities say the vehicle also had an incorrect temporary registration.

Officers say the driver, Decarlos Hawkins, 36, was slow to respond to the traffic stop, but eventually did. Hawkins initially did not comply when the officer asked them to get out of the car, but after several requests, officers say he eventually got out.

Hawkins showed signs of impairment, including smelling of alcohol and slurred speech. The press release states that he did not comply with the officer's request to perform field sobriety tests.

Because of this, Hawkins was arrested for OWI and had his blood drawn. Results are pending.

Hawkins was placed under arrest for a third OWI offense. He is free on bond following an open case in Walworth County.

Monona police also note in the press release that they assisted the Madison Police Department with a shooting early Sunday morning.
