Man arrested for disorderly conduct in Dewey Beach

DEWEY BEACH, Del. – A man is now behind bars for disorderly conduct in Dewey Beach.

On Sunday, June 2, 2024, at 1:32 a.m., the Dewey Beach Police Department responded to a reported altercation in the 16000 block of Coastal Road. Upon arrival, officers interacted with several people at the scene. During the investigation, a witness reported that one of the parties involved may have been carrying a firearm. Officers identified and approached Bryce S. Byers, a 28-year-old Dover resident. Byers exhibited physical signs of a recent altercation, including swelling, bruising and bleeding.

One of the responding officers noticed Byers displaying suspicious behavior, including a blade stance and keeping his right hand hidden in the front pocket of his hoodie. When questioned about the presence of a firearm, Byers attempted to avoid police, but was apprehended by a police officer who discovered a concealed loaded Glock 42 .380 handgun in Byers' possession. Bryce also showed signs of intoxication. Police said he had a valid concealed deadly weapons license in Delaware. While in custody, a blood search warrant was obtained and a blood sample was taken for further analysis.

Bryce S. Byers was charged with possession of a firearm while under the influence and disorderly conduct by fighting or engaging in violent, tumultuous or threatening behavior. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institute in lieu of $850.00 secured bail.
