Man arrested for being under the influence of meth in Redding | News

REDDING, California. – A man was arrested Wednesday for being under the influence of methamphetamine after reporting there was a possible shooter at an ice cream shop in Redding, Redding police said.

Around 1:30 p.m., officers responded to a report that a man was in possession of a firearm at Taste and See Creamery, police said.

A person had asked an employee to call police because there was a man acting suspiciously inside the business and armed with a gun in the restroom, police said.

The person was trying to hold the bathroom door closed until police arrived.

Officers arrived on scene, along with the California Highway Patrol helicopter, police said. Several people were seen leaving the scene on foot.

Citizens informed officers that the suspect had fled from the Taste and See Creamery to a nearby business, police said.

Eventually, officers were able to arrest the suspect, police said. Dustin Sanders, 34, was the person who reported the incident and helped police identify the suspect.

But the suspect was later found not to be in possession of any weapons and was released from the scene, police said.

Sanders was later found to be under the influence of methamphetamine, police said.

Sanders was arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance and was booked into the Shasta County Jail.
