Man arrested after woman shot in chest in Brockton

A man was arrested after a woman was found shot in the chest outside a Brockton home early Sunday morning.

Brockton police responded to a home on Falconer Avenue after receiving a report of a woman suffering a gunshot wound to the chest.

Brockton Fire and Ambulance personnel treated the victim at the scene before transporting him to a Boston hospital.

“I heard gunshots, multiple gunshots, multiple gunshots coming and going,” said John Pennio, who lives on Falconer Ave in Brockton.

Pennio looked out his window and saw dozens of shell casings shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday, when someone opened fire on his street.

Police say a man shot a woman in the chest.

“Your heart sinks, I went upstairs and checked on everyone,” Pennio said.

Pennio said he checked on his four children after a bullet from the shooting entered his house.

The bullet entered the house, ricocheted off the ceiling, then went through a painting and hit a wall.

The police had to break through the wall to find the bullet lodged inside the wall.

“If he had come in about six or eight inches higher, he would have gone straight into their bedroom,” Pennio said.

Pennio says he's so grateful the bullet didn't enter his child's bedroom, and he hopes the woman who was shot makes a full recovery.

“I’m just glad no one else was hurt,” Pennio said.

Police say the victim is from Fall River and is still recovering.

The 27-year-old man who was arrested will be arraigned Monday for the shooting.
