Man arrested after trying to take baby to Louisville hospital

LMPD officers had to physically remove the baby from the man. Shortly after, police said the man tried to fight them.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A man was arrested Monday by Louisville Metropolitan Police officers after allegedly trying to take a newborn to a local hospital.

Around 6 p.m., LMPD officers were dispatched to UofL Hospital in downtown Louisville on reports of a man, identified as Christopher Reid, attempting to pick up a baby without doctors' permission , nursing staff or mother.

Officers had to physically remove the child from Reid so hospital staff could provide necessary care to the baby. As officers took the newborn away, Reid bit an officer on the hand, according to his summons.

Once the baby was safely removed, Reid allegedly tightened his boots, tightened his belt and pushed a table aside. When officers asked Reid if he was about to fight, he responded “yes.”

The officers attempted to take Reid into custody when he “actively resisted” by removing his hands and kicking the officers, the subpoena states.

The officers were able to take Reid to the ground and place him in handcuffs. Even after he was subdued, authorities say he continued to kick officers.

According to the summons, “domestic-related” charges are pending against Reid. Police are waiting for information from the baby's mother.

Police said Reid threatened to harm her when she left the hospital.
