Man arrested after trying to pay Taco Bell with counterfeit $20 bills

GEORGETOWN, SC (WMBF) – A Conway man was arrested after allegedly trying to pay for Taco Bell with counterfeit money.

The Georgetown Police Department said Brandon Kinney was arrested Thursday after officers were called to the Taco Bell location after Kinney allegedly attempted to pay with two counterfeit $20 bills.

When officers arrived, Kinney attempted to leave the scene but was ultimately arrested. Police later learned Kinney was driving with a suspended license and arrested him.

Kinney was also found to have methamphetamine on him along with four other counterfeit $20 bills.

He was also identified as a suspect in an incident Monday at the Georgetown Ice Company for attempting to pass a counterfeit bill. Police also obtained a warrant for his arrest in the case.

Georgetown police said investigators are referring this case to the U.S. Secret Service for further investigation into the provenance of the counterfeit currency.

Kinney was charged with driving under suspension, possession of methamphetamine and two counterfeit money counters. Records show he remains at the Georgetown County Detention Center as of Friday.
