Man arrested after threatening to shoot chickens and expose himself to child

MARSHALL COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — A man was arrested after brandishing a gun Sunday in Marshall County.

According to the Marshall County Sheriff's Office (MCSO), officers responded to a home on Cypress Road in Union Grove regarding an elderly man with a gun who appeared “highly intoxicated.”

After meeting with the owner of the property, police determined that Billy Stewart, 65, was threatening to kill chickens owned by another family member. MCSO says Stewart also exposed himself to an 11-year-old child.

Stewart was found by deputies while sitting in an open doorway with his hands on a shotgun. After being ordered by deputies to remove his hands from the gun, Stewart complied.

As deputies began to approach Stewart, he told them, “You better back up” and reached for his gun again. However, deputies were able to recover Stewart's gun. According to MCSO, Stewart then entered the house and attempted to close the door to avoid being arrested.

After a short struggle with Stewart, he was arrested and charged with:

  • Public obscenity
  • Resisting arrest
  • Trying to evade
  • Threatening

Stewart is being held on a $9,000 property bond.
