Man arrested after suspected robbery led to police chase on I-65 – Shelby County Reporter

ALABASTER – Michael King now faces multiple charges after allegedly committing a robbery and fleeing police during a multi-police chase that ended in Birmingham.

The Alabaster Police Department arrested King, 30, of Bessemer, on charges of first-degree robbery, first-degree criminal mischief, second-degree assault, attempting to elude and unlawful possession of a pistol. King is currently being held in the Shelby County Jail without bond.

At approximately 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, Alabaster officers responded to a call for service at a closed gas station. Initial reports indicated a vehicle was stolen from the scene. Upon arrival, the police encountered the victim who was injured. The victim described how she was driving King home when the assault allegedly took place. King then allegedly took the vehicle and drove north on Interstate 65.

According to court records, King was armed with a semi-automatic pistol and also caused serious physical injury to the victim during the alleged robbery.

Pelham officers located the vehicle still northbound on Interstate 65 and attempted to stop King. King reportedly continued north on I-65 as officers from Hoover and Vestavia Hills joined the effort. King was eventually apprehended on Oxmoor Road in Birmingham.

King was charged with first-degree criminal mischief after allegedly causing the victim's 2022 Nissan Sentra $22,000 in an explosion.

First-degree theft is considered a Class A felony and is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $60,000 fine.

First-degree criminal mischief, second-degree assault, attempted escape, and unlawful possession of a pistol are all considered Class C felonies punishable by up to 10 years in prison. imprisonment and a $15,000 fine for each offense.
