Man arrested after stabbing three people in 24 hours

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A 19-year-old is facing attempted murder charges after police say he stabbed three victims in Charlotte within 24 hours.

The first stabbing involved a woman leaving work on Randolph Road, near Sam Drenan Road, around 6 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. Josiah Maitland, 19, approached the woman and allegedly stabbed her multiple times before fleeing the scene.

The next morning, around 11 a.m., on Old Mount Holly Road, officers said a man who was riding his moped to a safe location to make repairs was stabbed multiple times by an unknown person.

Police matched descriptions of suspects in both incidents and confirmed Maitland was responsible for both stabbings.

While trying to locate Maitland, police said he stabbed another woman on a CATS bus on Freedom Drive near I-85. The suspect's description matched the two previous stabbings.

Officers patrolled the area and were able to arrest Maitland without incident.

Maitland is charged with:

  • Assault with a deadly weapon, intent to kill, inflict serious injury, 3 counts
  • Attempted murder, 2 counts
  • Armed robbery
