Man arrested after shooting, kills 3 in Arkansas, injures several others – Firstpost

In another mass shooting incident, an Arkansas man opened fire at a supermarket, killing three people and injuring several others as shoppers and bystanders ducked to hide inside and outside the store.

Arkansas State Police Director Mike Hagar said the shooter, Travis Eugene Posey, was also injured in a shootout with police.

The injured included two law enforcement officers who exchanged fire with the suspect and shot him, state police said. The shooting happened around 11:30 a.m. at the Mad Butcher grocery store in Fordyce, a town of about 3,200 people located 64 miles south of Little Rock.

“Unfortunately, we can confirm that 11 innocent civilians were shot, and three of them died. Two law enforcement officers were injured during an exchange of gunfire. The suspect was also shot and taken into custody,” Hagar said.

Meanwhile, Posey, 44, was arrested and charged with three counts of murder while some of his other charges are still pending.

The injuries to Posey or the two officers were not life-threatening, officials said, while civilian injuries ranged from not life-threatening to extremely critical.

However, police have not yet confirmed whether the shooting took place inside or outside the grocery store. They also did not identify a motive for Posey's shooting, nor did they confirm the identity of the victims.

Images from journalists on site showed numerous bullet holes in the grocery window and spent shell casings scattered in the parking lot. In video footage, local and state agencies could be seen responding to the scene, with at least one medical helicopter landing nearby.
