Man arrested after shooting at neighbors playing music and setting off fireworks

STATESVILLE, NC (WBTV) – A man was arrested Saturday in Iredell County after shooting at his neighbors because they were playing music and lighting fireworks, according to the sheriff's office.

Todd Lemons, 65, was placed in the Iredell County Detention Center on $60,000 bail and responsible for the following:

  • Six counts of felonious assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill
  • Six counts of communicating threats

The shooting happened along Little Valley Lane near Massey Deal Road in Statesville.

When officers arrived on scene for a shots fired call, they found Lemons with a handgun and asked him to drop the weapon and surrender, to which he did.

After speaking with neighbors and witnesses, authorities determined that Lemons “became angry with his neighbors for playing music and setting off fireworks.” Because of this, reports indicate that Lemons began shooting at the group of people outside the house.

Deputies said one victim tried to talk to Lemons to deescalate the situation; however, Lemons pointed the gun at that person and continued shooting.

Authorities said another person returned fire, but no one was seriously injured during the situation.
