Man arrested after livestream in downtown Spokane

Hoyt Webb, 36, was booked into the Spokane County Jail on charges of first-degree assault last Friday.

SPOKANE, Wash. — New court documents were released Monday regarding a shooting near Second and Division in downtown Spokane last Friday.

According to court documents, officers with the Spokane Police Department responded to a shooting near Division and Short.

When officers arrived on scene, court documents say Hoyt Webb, 36, was in the area documenting the activities of the homeless and was streaming his video live on a YouTube page.

Court documents say police found live video of the shooting, noting Webb was yelling obscenities at someone in the 7-11 parking lot as they drove away.

The video also showed Webb carrying a gun in a shoulder holster, according to court documents.

Following that altercation at 7-11, video showed Webb filming people across Division when another man began running toward Webb, and police said they heard “the sound of a gun slide being triggered.”

Court documents say people began yelling at Webb, and Webb yelled “I feel threatened,” saying someone else had a gun.

Court documents also say Webb began yelling at someone to drop a rock.

Webb then fired his weapon two more times before retreating. Webb hit Thomas Hatch, 47, who police said had an iced coffee in his hand.

While speaking to police, Webb told officers he felt like his life was in danger, regretting being out there and arguing and yelling at people.

Webb was booked into the Spokane County Jail on charges of first-degree assault. Hatch was shot and taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Webb appeared in court Monday afternoon. Webb will be arraigned on June 25 at 9 a.m. Webb has a $75,000 bond.
