Man arrested after crashing into utility pole in Windsor

A man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after crashing into a utility pole in Windsor, authorities said.

The incident took place around 10:50 p.m. last Tuesday, when Sonoma County firefighters heard a crash from their station on Old Redwood Highway and responded. They found a Honda Odyssey at Hembree Lane and Old Redwood Highway that had crashed into a utility pole, according to a Facebook post from the Windsor Police Department.

When deputies — the Windsor Police Department falls under the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office — arrived, the driver of the Odyssey, Marco Martinez Chavez, was being medically evaluated. He was the only occupant of the van.

Following the medical evaluation, deputies investigated and then arrested Martinez Chávez. He was driving with a blood alcohol level of 0.23%, according to the department's Facebook post; the legal limit is 0.08%.

Further details were not immediately available.

Martinez Chavez was booked into the Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, driving without a license and driving without current auto insurance, the post said. He later posted $10,000 bail and was released.
