Man arrested after chasing Tulsa County deputies and crashing into car | News

TULSA, Okla. — A man was arrested after leading Tulsa County deputies on a chase that ended in a collision with another car and an attack by civilians near 51st Street and Yale .

Deputies said it initially started with a traffic stop eastbound on I-44 Wednesday evening.

The officers stopped the car and once they approached the car, the suspect drove off.

As the driver approached the intersection of 51st and Yale, officers stopped the pursuit for safety reasons, but before they could do so, the driver struck another car.

“Running is a bad idea. It almost always ends badly, which is one reason why, due to the time of day and the area we are in, we were going to end the chase before “Unfortunately, he came into contact with the other vehicle,” said Capt. Scott Dean of the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office.

The suspect took off on foot, but was caught by bystanders near LaFortune Park.

FOX23 spoke with a man who took action to help.

“When I saw the other guy tackle him, I thought I could offer him some help, so I went that direction and did what I could,” Stephan Wollman said.

Officers learned the suspect had warrants for his arrest and said they believed he may have been drinking.

The person in the other car that was struck was taken to hospital to be checked out, but is expected to be OK.

Eastbound 51st is reduced to one lane as deputies work to clear the scene.

FOX23 will provide more updates as more information becomes available.
