VISALIA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A 31-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly tried to remove a defibrillator from the wall of the Visalia Convention Center and then began stripping naked, the Visalia Police Department said.

Police said that at 2:14 p.m., officers responded to the convention center regarding a man, identified as Gerard Munoz, 31, of Fresno, who was attempting to remove a defibrillator from the wall. Security reported that Munoz began to undress and attempted to run down the stairs where a beauty pageant was taking place.

Police said the convention center was immediately evacuated before the man completely undressed and entered the restroom.

Police say when they arrived on scene, they attempted to negotiate with Munoz to come out of the bathroom, but he refused. They then entered the bathroom, where the suspect resisted but was eventually taken into custody.

He was taken to Kaweah Health for a medical examination.

Police said once cleared, Munoz would face charges of resisting arrest, vandalism, being under the influence of a controlled substance and indecent exposure.
