Man arrested after 7 months of slinging ball bearings at drivers in Forest Grove

A man has been arrested after a 7-month crime spree in Forest Grove, where he allegedly shot at drivers and damaged their cars with marbles, ball bearings and other projectiles.

The Forest Grove Police Department reports that in October 2023, they began receiving multiple reports of people shooting car windows with hard projectiles while driving in the area of ​​E Street and Pacific Avenue.

As of November 2023, the suspect remains unidentified and no further incidents are reported.

However, in May 2024 the incidents started again, with more victims reporting their car windows were hit by BB bullets and ball bearings while driving in the same area of ​​E Street and Pacific Ave.

At that time, a total of 12 victims reported damage to their vehicles.

On the night of Friday, May 24, officers and detectives located the suspect on E Street near Pacific Avenue and arrested him around 10:30 p.m.

Police say when the suspect was arrested, he had a slingshot and a container of ball bearings with him, and he had hit a passing car with a ball bearing just minutes before.

Caleb Spurlock, 28, of Forest Grove, was identified as a suspect by police.

Spurlock was incarcerated in the Washington County Jail for numerous crimes, including:

  • First degree criminal mischief
  • Second degree criminal mischief
  • Illegal use of a weapon
  • Reckless endangerment
  • Third degree assault
  • Fourth Degree Assault.
