Man arrested accused of assaulting, robbing girlfriend at Oakland County hotel

Michigan State Police arrested a Detroit man this week for allegedly assaulting and robbing his girlfriend in Oakland County.

The woman told 911 operators that her 31-year-old boyfriend punched her in the face and body at an American Inn and Suites hotel in Royal Oak Township around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, MSP Second District on X said.

The man also threw a brick at her car window and stole $300 from her, state police reported.

Security cameras allowed MSP officers and Oak Park police to locate the man in a room on the fourth floor of the building. Another man and a woman answered the door for officers, who arrested the suspect after a brief struggle, according to MSP.

Officers found the man hiding in a corner when they arrested him. Officers also found 40 ecstasy pills in his pocket, state police said.

Authorities took the man to the Oakland County Jail while they waited for a prosecutor to review the charges against him.

The woman refused to receive medical care on site, according to the MSP.

“If you are experiencing violence in your relationship, there is help available to you,” said First Lt. Mike Shaw, a spokesman for MSP’s 2nd District, on X. “You can call 866.VOICEDV 24 hours a day to access resources and help get out of that relationship.
