Man armed with 'meat cleaver' arrested in Georgian Quarter

A man was arrested this evening after behaving aggressively in the street while brandishing a “bladed weapon”.

Police arrived near Renshaw Street/Leece Street shortly after 6pm after reports of a man “acting aggressively”.

A 48-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested shortly afterwards on suspicion of affray and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. According to police, a meat cleaver was also found.

Police confirmed the weapon was not used to harm anyone. Chief Inspector Andy Hughes of Merseyside Police said: “We have recently seen the positive results of a successful week of action under Scepter which aims to reduce and prevent knife crime on the streets of the Merseyside.

“We are constantly working to reduce and disrupt serious violence and remove dangerous weapons from our streets.

“The public plays a vital role in helping us achieve this. If you have any information, including who carries, uses or stores knives or weapons, please come forward so we can continue to disrupt offenders and bring them to justice.
