Man allegedly threatened neighbor with pitchfork, San Juan Sheriff's Office says – The Journal

Nunez-McClanahan arrested on new charge during arraignment

Jordan Nunez-McClanahan, 38, was arrested when he appeared in court on June 3.

A San Juan County man was arrested when he showed up to be arraigned on charges of aggravated assault.

Assistant Prosecutor Michael Sanchez informed the court that Jordan Nunez-McClanahan, 38, had filed an additional charge of harassment and had an outstanding arrest warrant.

“The state is seeking revocation of the conditions of release after committing a new criminal offense,” Sanchez told District Judge Daylene Marsh, who ordered Nunez-McClanahan to register with the bailiff and not leave the courtroom.

The charges against Nunez-McClanahan related to altercations he had with his neighbor, according to court records.

The first charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon was related to an incident May 3 at 1:36 p.m. on County Road 4018 in Middle Mesa in Nunez-McClanahan allegedly chasing another man “with a pitchfork” , according to the probable cause release.

Nunez-McClanahan, he and his neighbor James Morrow allegedly “had issues with each other regarding Morrow receiving an 'eviction' notice from Nunez-McClanahan, according to court records.”

Morrow told San Juan County Sheriff's Office investigators that he was working outside when Nunez-McClanahan allegedly approached him “yelling at him” and carrying “a pitchfork, a shovel and a chainsaw ”, depending on the probable cause.

Morrow said he asked Nunez-McClanahan “if he had a gun,” and the man said he did. He also allegedly told Morrow: “I have a pitchfork; I’m going to kill you,” according to the probable cause statement.

Two witnesses reported hearing Nunez-McClanahan say he was going to “kill” Morrow, and one witness said he saw Nunez-McClanahan holding the pitchfork and “walking aggressively toward” Morrow, who told authorities he “had feared for his safety and felt threatened”. by the “words and actions” of Nunez-McClanahan, according to the probable cause statement.

Nunez-McClanahan was arrested and transported to the San Juan County Detention Center.

Nunez-McClanahan was released from the detention center on May 6 and Magistrate Stacey Biel signed a no-contact order, telling the man not to contact the alleged victim in any way and not to harass Morrow.

Then, on May 26, Morrow contacted the sheriff's office to report that Nunez-McClanahan was “terrorizing” him and “in fear for his life,” according to a May 29 arrest warrant affidavit.

Morrow provided video evidence of Nunez-McClanahan, who allegedly blocked the exit from his property by parking at the end of Morrow's driveway. Then the truck “slowly drives away and continues down the road,” the affidavit states.

On May 27, sheriff's investigators were again called to the scene. This time, Morrow and several witnesses reported seeing Nunez-McClanahan walking past the property “slowly and yelling at him to 'get out of here,'” the affidavit states.

Nunez-McClanahan was charged with harassment and the arrest warrant was issued on May 29. The warrant was served June 3, when Nunez-McClanahan showed up in court on the previous charge of aggravated assault. He was booked into the San Juan County Detention Center.
