A 46-year-old man stopped a passing motorist after escaping from a western Sydney unit where he was allegedly assaulted while being held captive for more than 20 hours this weekend.

He was allegedly attacked with a number of items, including a pair of scissors and a golf club, at a residential complex on Rawson Rd in Guildford.

A 61-year-old man has since been charged over the incident.

The victim and the alleged attacker – who NSW Police say know each other – entered the unit, where the 61-year-old man lives, around 7pm on Saturday.

An argument broke out between the men and the youngest, who was prevented from leaving, was attacked.

The younger man was eventually able to flee the unit and arrested a passerby who called for help around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.

“Paramedics from NSW Ambulance treated the man at the scene for injuries consistent with an assault,” NSW Police said.

“He was taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition.”

The older man was arrested a short time later outside his unit and taken to Granville police station.

He was charged with aggravated sexual assault – inflicting bodily harm on the victim and taking a person with the intent to commit a serious criminal act.

He was refused bail to appear in Parramatta Local Court on Monday.
