COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A man accused of shooting a woman inside a car on a highway in Worthington appeared in court Monday morning.

Teddy Allen Oliva Neira, 34, was given bail of more than $150,000 during his arraignment hearing on two felony assault charges stemming from Friday night's incident. Neira also will not be allowed to possess weapons or commit other acts or threats of violence as part of his bail conditions, according to Franklin County Municipal Court records. He is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing on June 11.

On Friday around 8:45 p.m., Ohio Department of Transportation highway cameras captured police blocking the southbound lanes of State Route 315 through Worthington. Officers temporarily diverted traffic to an exit ramp to State Route 161, but the road was open again Saturday.

Worthington Deputy City Manager David McCorkle confirmed the closure was the result of a “domestic dispute” inside a car on the state highway. The vehicle was heading south when someone fired at least one shot, hitting a passenger.

Emergency crews took the passenger, a woman, to an area hospital. The woman was shot in the neck and was listed in stable condition.

Neira and the victim were arguing inside the vehicle when, according to a statement made to police, Neira pulled out the handgun and accidentally shot the victim, according to court records. Court records indicate Neira was kneeling next to the victim when officers arrived on scene.
