MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man accused of shooting a mother in front of her children last month is scheduled to appear in court Monday morning.

Kristopher Jackson, 39, is the man police say pulled the trigger and is also the children's father. He was arrested Friday after avoiding police following the attack.

Jackson is charged with criminal attempt first-degree murder, criminal attempted possession of a firearm/dangerous felony, convicted felon in possession of a handgun, and three counts of reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon.

Investigators say it started back in May when Jackson allegedly shot the mother of his children because she did not want to be in a relationship with him any longer.

The shooting took place one month after the victim filed a police report on Jackson, according to reports.

The woman told police that once she brought up the topic of separation, she was soon met with bullets in her back. Police say she is still in critical condition.

Their three children were also present during the time of the shooting. Police say the oldest daughter told them that she saw her mother on the ground.

Jackson is currently being held in jail on a $1,500,000 bond. WREG will provide updates after the hearing on Monday morning.
