A man has been charged with shooting and killing a La Mirada man in a Norwalk neighborhood on May 26.

Ricardo Brito Mejia, 52, of Norwalk, was charged May 29 with murder and being a felon in possession of a weapon and the same day pleaded not guilty in Bellflower Superior Court, according to court records.

Investigators have not released a motive or details of the shooting, which occurred in the 12700 block of Kalnor Avenue.

The victim, David Molina, 45, of La Mirada, did not have a weapon on him, sheriff's Lt. Omar Camacho said.

A caller reported the shooting around 11:30 p.m. to the sheriff's department, which also received a call from a hospital about a gunshot victim, he said. Molina died the next day of a torso injury, according to the medical examiner's office.

As of Tuesday, Mejia was being held at the North County Correctional Facility in Castaic on $3.05 million bail.
