Man accused of possession of a weapon, prowling at night in Newtown Township.

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, Pa. — The Newtown Township Police Department reported the following incidents and arrests between May 16 and May 23:

May 16

  • At approximately 12:30 p.m., a Newtown Township resident contacted police to report a theft from his vehicle. The theft occurred while the vehicle was unlocked and parked outside his residence. The total value of the loss was less than $25.

May 18

  • Around 1 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a GMC pickup truck for committing a vehicle violation at the intersection of Newtown Bypass and Lower Silver Lake Road. While speaking with the driver, the officer detected the odor of alcohol. The driver was unable to satisfactorily complete field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence. Suspected narcotics and drug paraphernalia were also discovered and seized as evidence. The driver refused to submit blood for chemical analysis. Charges are pending.
  • At approximately 4:45 p.m., police were dispatched to the scene of a retail theft at McCaffrey's Food Market. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
  • At approximately 11:45 p.m., police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a Nissan Altima for committing a vehicle violation at the intersection of Newtown Bypass and Summit Trace Road. As a result of the investigation, suspected narcotics and equipment were discovered and seized as evidence. The driver was arrested.

May 19

  • Police were dispatched to a home in Newtown Township around 8:45 p.m. for a report of a disturbance. As a result of the investigation, a woman was taken into custody on an active arrest warrant from the Bucks County Sheriff's Department without incident.

May 20

  • A Wrightstown Township resident went to headquarters around 3 p.m. to report a theft from her mailbox. She explained that nothing of value was taken, just a few Mother's Day cards.
  • Around 5:30 p.m., police were dispatched to a retail theft in progress at Lululemon. Following the investigation, three minors were taken into custody and charged.

May 21

  • Police were dispatched to a residence in Newtown Township around 1:35 a.m. to report a disturbance. As a result of the investigation, a man was taken into custody and charged with possession of weapons, criminal mischief, and loitering and loitering at night.

May 23

  • A business located in Newtown Township contacted police just before noon to report fraud. A check was stolen from their outgoing mail and counterfeited by an unknown person. The check cleared and the company suffered no monetary loss.
