Man accused of human trafficking, sex crimes in Madison Heights

A Detroit man accused of human trafficking and prostitution has been indicted, Madison Heights police announced Monday.

Kevin Leon Johnson, 31, was arraigned Friday in 43rd District Court in Madison Heights on charges of torture, first-degree criminal sexual conduct, transporting a person for prostitution, injury caused by human trafficking human, and assault and battery.

A magistrate set Johnson's bail at $750,000 and scheduled his next court hearing for June 16. He remains in custody at the Oakland County Jail.

If convicted, he faces life in prison for torture and life in prison for first-degree criminal sexual conduct. Each of the four prostitution charges carries a sentence of up to 20 years.

Each of the two human trafficking charges carries a sentence of up to 15 years. Assault and battery is a 93-day misdemeanor.

Court records did not list an attorney for Johnson as of Monday.

Police say Johnson trafficked at least two people for prostitution. They said he sexually assaulted one of them at least twice and physically assaulted her.
