Man, 28, sentenced to 70 years in prison for murder, robbery – Indianapolis News | Indiana Weather | Indianapolis Traffic

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — One of two men accused of a 2021 shooting death and robbery at a West Side apartment complex was sentenced Friday to 70 years in prison, according to prosecutors.

Jeffrey Herald, 42, died Nov. 27, 2021, of a shooting in the 5400 block of Pleasant Hill Circle. It's in the Pangea Hills Apartments on West Vermont Street, west of North Lynhurst Drive.

In April, a jury found Tavaris R. Jackson, 28, guilty of two counts of murder and two counts of robbery resulting in serious bodily injury. Marion Superior Court 32 Judge Mark D. Stoner sentenced Jackson.

Online state prison records show Jackson was previously convicted of three counts of burglary in Monroe County and sentenced in 2015, 2019 and 2022.

In November, the judge accepted a plea deal for Laseanne Strode. He pleaded guilty to robbery causing grievous bodily harm. He was 23 when he was arrested Dec. 26, 2021, at the Indianapolis International Airport after leaving a plane, police said.

Cell phone data placed Jackson and Strode at the crime scene during the murder. Cell phone, social media and a witness who heard the planned robbery helped determine what led to the shooting.
