Man, 23, arrested in connection with LaVilla shooting

JACKSONVILLE, Florida. – A 23-year-old man was arrested in connection with a shooting Tuesday evening outside the Greyhound bus station in a normally quiet LaVilla neighborhood.

Koby Robinson was found half a mile from the shooting that left 30 evidence markers on the ground as detectives tried to put the pieces together.

Police said Robinson led them on a chase before his arrest.

A witness who did not see the shooting but was close enough to hear the gunshots said it sounded like a shootout.

“The first one sounded like a rifle and the second one was definitely a handgun,” the witness said.

One of the bullets hit the second story window of a townhouse. Fortunately, the house was still under construction.

No one was injured despite the shooting.

“For so many shots to be fired and no one to be hit, it was pretty crazy,” the witness said.

Tom Hackney, a retired JSO investigations director turned crime and security analyst at News4JAX, said he understands how nervous community members will be after the shooting.

“There were a lot of shootings. There were a lot of bullets fired in a lot of different places,” Hackney said. “The city has really done its best to get the LaVilla neighborhood back to where it is. New constructions. People live there. Businesses are setting up there. So when there's this little explosion of violence there, it really scares people, and that's normal. This is an example of how dangerous these random shootings can be. These running and shooting confrontations. »

Robinson was charged with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, armed trespass and resisting arrest.

The matter is currently under investigation.
