Man, 21, stabbed to death in south-east London as police make arrests

Two people have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 21-year-old man was stabbed to death on a residential street in south-east London.

Police and paramedics were called to Carteret Way, Deptford, shortly after 10.30pm on Thursday following reports of a stabbing.

Doctors tried to save the victim, a man aged around 20, but he died instantly.

His relatives have been informed, police said.

“Two men have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody,” a Met spokesperson said on Friday morning.

“A crime scene remains in place.”

Scotland Yard has urged anyone with information about this attack to contact us.

Police tape and several police cars could be seen at the scene at Pepys Estate in Deptford, with more arriving at the scene on Friday morning.

A nearby business owner, who did not give his name, expressed shock, calling it “crazy,” adding: “Nowhere is safe.”

Another resident, who was waiting for a bus near the scene and also did not want to be named, said: “I was just at home and there were so many police officers late last night. I do not know what happened. I was at work at two o'clock, my husband came home from work and saw lots of police.

“The police were there until 2 a.m. This is the first time this has happened, I've been here for a year.Anyone with information at this early stage is asked to call police on 101 or 'X' @MetCC and quote CAD8733/6June.
