Malden man convicted of robbing Harvard Market with Airsoft gun

A 58-year-old man will serve three years in prison for a robbery at Harvard Market in Malden, according to the office of Acting Massachusetts U.S. Attorney Joshua S. Levy.

John Schurko, of Malden, will serve two years of supervised release following his prison sentence. In February, Schurko pleaded guilty to a single count of interference with commerce by theft, Levy's office said in a statement.

On December 12, 2021, around 8 p.m., Schurko entered Harvard Market in Malden and displayed what appeared to be a firearm. He then went behind the counter and demanded money from the clerk, according to Levy's office.

A few days later, on December 16, Schurcko's “getaway vehicle” was found in the parking lot of a Medford hotel, where he was arrested. During a search of the vehicle, police found a black Airsoft gun that looked like a real gun, according to the release.
