Madison's mobile recreation program could be coming to a park near you | News

MADISON (WKOW) – With school out and summer in full swing, parents are looking for activities to keep their children entertained and active. Madison School and Community Recreation (MSCR) programs are taking over, ready to help families by bringing recreation directly to neighborhood parks through their mobile recreation program.

“It’s a fun and positive experience for kids and adults to see what they could do with their free time,” said Martha Hutchinson who works for MSCR. “This program has been very successful. Tuesday night we were at Elver Park and there were over 400 people there.

This Thursday, the organization unveiled two new additions to its fleet, bringing the total to three vehicles. Each van is dedicated to a specific activity: interactive learning, arts and crafts and pottery. Throughout the summer, these vans will circulate in different parks.

“I love this idea because we can see the different parks and admire the view. We will follow them everywhere,” said Parisa Wade who was at the park with her daughter on Thursday. “Believe me, afterwards they will go home, take a bath and knock themselves out; It gives me pause.

Last year, more than 6,000 people benefited from this mobile leisure program, and the new vehicles are already attracting a lot of attention and show no signs of slowing down. For a complete schedule of their locations and times, visit here.
