Lubbock man arrested and accused of beating assisted living patient to death | KLBK | KAMC

LUBBOCK, Texas — The Lubbock Police Department said Derrick Bell, 36, was arrested Wednesday, June 5, after being accused of beating a man to death at a North Lubbock assisted living facility.

(LUBBOCK, TX) – An investigation is underway by Lubbock Police Department Maj.
Special Crimes Unit and Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit following Northern Assault
Lubbock.
Lubbock police were initially called to the 3400 block of North University Avenue at 8:05 p.m.
on June 2 in reference to alleged abuse of a resident who was transported to Covenant
Medical center with life-threatening injuries.
During the initial investigation, it appears that 36-year-old Derrick Bell was assaulted at 53 years old.
Paul Reed, 1 year old, early that morning. Reed's condition deteriorated throughout the day,
leading to his transport to the CMC.
An arrest warrant was issued for Bell for injury to a disabled person on June 5. Investigators
took him into custody that day without incident at the scene of the attack. It was
transported to the Lubbock County Detention Center where he is being held on $100,000 bond.
Reed was pronounced dead on June 5 at 10:46 p.m. at CMC.
The investigation is ongoing.
