Louisiana Man Arrested in Arizona for Murder of Ashley Barnes

Police officials confirmed that a suspect arrested Saturday in Winslow, Arizona, was wanted in connection with the rape and murder of a Louisiana teenager.

Arizona authorities have helped arrest Montrell Donell Holmes, suspected of killing 14-year-old Ashley Barnes.

In a Facebook post published by the Bastrop Police Department, police officials said they were conducting a homicide investigation after discovering a body in the woods, later identified as Barnes.

Authorities said a suspect has been arrested in connection with the case, identified as Holmes.

On Saturday, U.S. Marshals Service officials said their Flagstaff office received a request from the U.S. Marshals Service's Western District of Louisiana Violent Offender Task Force to help locate and arrest Holmes.

Authorities said he was wanted in connection with Barnes' murder and rape.

Officers from the Flagstaff Task Force of the Marshals Service, in coordination with the Flagstaff Police Department and the Department of Public Safety, located and arrested Holmes using signals from cell towers. He was arrested in Winslow, just off Interstate 40 and North Park Drive.

Authorities said Holmes was awaiting transport to the Western District of Louisiana, where he will be charged. Bastrop police were still investigating the killing.
