Louisiana man arrested after alleged reckless driving with unrestrained baby in car

SLIDELL, La. (WGNO) — The man accused of fleeing Slidell police with an unrestrained baby in the car has turned himself in.

Emanuel Henry, 26, was initially wanted by the Slidell Police Department after allegedly fleeing officers with an unrestrained infant in the front seat of his vehicle.

On June 6, Slidell police said they saw Henry speeding on Old Spanish Trail with the baby and stopped him on Interstate 10 Twin Spans.

They say Henry cooperated with officers until they discovered he had outstanding arrest warrants and asked him to exit the vehicle. That's when police say he took off, leading them on a chase toward New Orleans.

The officers said that after a while, they backed away to “avoid possible injury to the infant.”

On Monday, June 10, Henry reportedly went to the Slidell Police Department. He has since been booked into the Slidell City Jail on the following charges:

  • Two counts of domestic violence with child endangerment
  • Aggravated flight from an officer
  • Endangering the welfare of a child
  • Reckless operation
  • Expired license plate
  • Poorly restrained child
  • Driving under suspension
