Louisiana 4-H Shooting Team Wins Second Consecutive National Championship

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Louisiana 4-H shooting team has won its second consecutive national championship.

Nine Louisiana 4-H teams finished in the top seven in their individual events. According to David Boldt, 4-H youth development instructor, two teams finished first, two teams finished second, two teams finished third, one team finished fourth and two teams finished seventh.

“These kids continue to set the bar high for our future teams,” Boldt said. “I want to thank the kids, parents, chaperones and coaches for being such a great representation of our Louisiana shooting program. What a great group to be around.”

The nine disciplines included in the competition were air pistol, air rifle, compound archery, hunting techniques, muzzleloading, recurve archery, shotgun, small bore pistol and small bore rifle, according to the LSU AgCenter.

LSU AgCenter said the Louisiana delegation placed first overall and the state teams took home top prizes in the air pistol and small bore rifle categories. Two Louisiana individuals placed first, including KG Bourgoyne of Assumption Parish in the air pistol category and Victoria McClung of Bossier Parish in the small bore rifle category.

“It’s been an incredible year,” Boldt said. “These crazy team results are a first for Louisiana, and we’ve had some really good years.”

The 2024 4-H National Shooting Championships were held in Grand Island, Nebraska, June 23-28.
