Los Angeles County deputy arrested and charged with smuggling drugs into jail

LOS ANGELESA Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputy is accused of smuggling drugs into a Los Angeles County jail complex in Castaic.

Deputy Michael Meiser, 39, was arrested on felony charges April 30, according to inmate records.

The deputy worked for the anti-gang unit known as Operation Safe Jails, a special investigative unit within the prison tasked with arresting exactly what he is accused of.

“It's very ironic, but on the other hand, in talking with deputies who currently work for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office, they said that it's actually quite common that things like these- These are happening,” said Saren Prime of Prime Initiative. and a former MP.

“He was currently being monitored by other deputies who reported wrongdoing,” Prime said.

The LASD says the department's Internal Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating the allegations.

“This could be done not only for leverage, but also for personal financial gain. There is a lot of money in the drug world and for most, for some people, it is way too much tempting,” Prime added.

The Sheriff's Department released the following statement: “The employee is relieved of duty pending the outcome of the matter. This is an ongoing investigation. Once the matter is completed, it will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. “

Prison records provide no information on his release.
